Union Street Dam

Up-river view from the Union St Dam
Between the northern end of Boardman Lake and the river's mouth on W Grand Traverse Bay, there is only 1 dam on the Boardman to contend with and it's a very short & easy portage for paddlers.

After passing under Cass Rd, stay to the left and aim for the trees at the end of the walkway along the southern shore.

Exit at the dirt landing.

Walk up the short dirt hill.

Walk west, past (not across) the dam towards the end of the boardwalk.

Re-launch down the little dirt hill where the boardwalk ends.

Use caution! It can be quite rocky and slippery.

As it meanders its way through downtown Traverse City, the Boardman River is wider, deeper and much slower than any other section of the river.
