The Boardman River Nature Center

The Boardman River Nature Center is the perfect place to discover why this treasured gem is the crown jewel of Grand Traverse County. The Nature Center is also the location for the headquarters of the Grand Traverse Natural Education Reserve.

"Built in 2008 on the banks of the Boardman River at the Grand Traverse Natural Education Reserve, the Boardman River Nature Center is your gateway to the natural world. The Nature Center offers an interpretive gallery with live animals and rotating exhibits that change with the seasons. The displays encourage interaction and feature Michigan’s most interesting fauna and flora."

As Sabin Pond is lowered the Boardman River will return to its natural flow

picnic shelter at the Boardman River Nature Center

Visitors can enjoy the picnic pavilion and peaceful views from the platform overlooking Sabin Pond. This is also the location of 2 GTNER trail heads; the Fox Den Trail (easy & fun for kids) & the Sabin Pond Trail.

Kayaks & tubes, etc, can be launched from the small peninsula between the dam powerhouse building and the spillway (follow the path on the left just past the red brick building) It's about a 1-hour, very gentle float to the Boardman Valley Nature Preserve.
